Let's have a look at how Huang Chun, deputy director of the pandemic prevention and control office of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics organizing committee, explains the pandemic-prevention measures during that time.

Q: What kind of management will be implemented during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics-

Huang: The International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games published the first editions of the Beijing 2022 Playbooks on Oct 25. The two playbooks cover the whole journey of all Games participants, detailing the requirements for entry and the measures that will be in place within the closed-loop management system.

Q: What does the closed-loop management mean-

Huang: To allow everyone to perform the day-to-day activities that are essential to their roles during the Games. A special system has been defined to keep Games participants and people in China safe by reducing unnecessary interactions. This closed-loop system allows Games participants to enter China without undergoing a compulsory 21-day quarantine, provided they are fully vaccinated, according to the playbooks.

Q: Do athletes need to get booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccine-

Huang: Staff members working for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and all Chinese athletes must be vaccinated with booster shots, while for foreign athletes and entourages, "it is encouraged but not mandatory".

Q: What about the nucleic acid sampling services-

Huang: Nucleic acid sampling services will be provided for athletes and personnel at any time from morning to night. Athletes don't have to worry about it affecting their pre-competition practice and participation in events.

Q: What if a pandemic occurs-

Huang: Although no one expects it happen, BOCOG has made full preparations to ensure the goal that there will be no interruption of competitions, no large-scale pandemic, no closed-loop ruptures and no public events other than the pandemic itself.
